Anyone exploring the history of Seiko's dive watches will inevitably encounter two iconic models: the 1965 62MAS, the brand's first diver's watch, and the 1968 Hi-Beat Automatic Diver 300m. These landmark timepieces laid the foundation for Seiko's reputation in the world of professional diving instruments and continue to inspire modern interpretations. In recent years, Seiko has gradually refined its dive watch designs, shifting toward more ergonomic proportions that cater to everyday wear, while still honoring the aesthetic and legacy of these original classics.

Seiko Prospex Diver Scuba 60th Anniversary - Ltd Ed 6000pcs Ref. SBDC213 |
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of its first diver's watch, Seiko released the Prospex Diver Scuba 60th Anniversary Limited Edition SBDC213, limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide. This special edition also marked the company's 140th anniversary, creating a meaningful tribute to both its technical achievements and rich heritage. As part of the Prospex collection short for "Professional Specification", this model represents Seiko's continued commitment to durability, reliability, and performance, both on land and in the depths of the sea.
The stainless steel case of the watch measures 13.0mm in thickness, 40mm in diameter, and 46.4mm from lug to lug. These dimensions create a slim, well-balanced profile that sits comfortably on the wrist, making it suitable for a wide range of wearers. With a 20mm lug width, the watch maintains excellent proportions. The case is beautifully finished with blends of sophisticated satin brushing and Seiko high polishing on the sides, adding depth and definition while highlighting Seiko's meticulous attention to detail. This finishing is further enhanced by Seiko's proprietary Diamond Shield coating, which provides an additional layer of scratch resistance, ensuring the case retains its sleek, polished appearance over time. A unidirectional black bezel adds both contrast and functionality, making it ideal for tracking dive times. Additionally, the screw-down crown at 3 o'clock enhances the watch's reliability, contributing to its impressive 300m water resistance.

Seiko's Caliber 6R55 automatic |
Protected under a curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside, the dial of the SBDC213 showcases Seiko's meticulous craftsmanship. The white dial features a pattern inspired by the waves of the ocean, tying seamlessly into the watch's identity as a diver's timepiece. The sunray-brushed texture evokes the shimmering effect of light on the water's surface, creating a dynamic and reflective quality that mirrors the movement of the ocean, while ensuring excellent legibility. To enhance readability, Seiko's LumiBrite is generously applied to the hands, indexes, and bezel, providing clear visibility even in low light. The date complication is positioned at between 4 and 5, with the Seiko logo at 12 o'clock and the Prospex text at 6 o'clock, creating a clean and balanced layout that prioritizes both aesthetics and function.
Underneath the screw-in caseback, the Prospex Diver Scuba is powered by Seiko's 6R55 automatic movement, which beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) and features 24 jewels. With a generous 72-hour power reserve, the movement delivers reliable performance, with an accuracy range of +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day. The caseback is engraved with the "limited edition" and serial number, highlighting the watch's exclusivity and craftsmanship.
