Exceline Gold Ref. SWDL160

(1 Review)

When it comes to manufacturing fine timepieces, the brand that stands out for its accomplishment in fine watchmaking is none other than the highly acclaimed Japanese watch manufacturer Seiko, a name renowned by watch aficionados around the world for their craft in producing exceptional watches that brings remarkable value.

It comes as no surprise that watches for ladies are greatly overshadowed by the plethora of men's watches in the market. Fortunately, Seiko filled this void with their Exceline collection, consisting of graceful timepieces that cater to ladies. The most noteworthy characteristic of the Exceline range is its high-accuracy quartz movements. The hallmark of the Excline range of watches lies in the combination of Seiko’s high precision quartz movement with subtle, yet elegant aesthetics.

Seiko Exceline Gold Ref. SWDL160

The Seiko Exceline Ref. SWDL160 flaunts a simple time-only layout that embodies the minimalist look of a true dress watch. With its fully polished gold tone stainless steel case, the case construction presents smooth lines with a gentle curve on the lugs for a pleasing and sophisticated design. The delicate dimensions compliment this piece's dressy nature with a case diameter of 23.9mm and a lug to lug distance of 29mm. On top of that, the case is treated with Seiko’s proprietary DiaShock hard coating, allowing the piece to continue looking pristine over time with a strong resistance to scratches.

However, the main attribute that truly takes the Seiko Exceline Ref. SWDL160 to another level is its incredible slenderness. Measuring a thickness (or slimness) of only 5.1mm, the wafer-thin profile of the watch perfectly expresses the virtue of a traditional dress watch that slides effortlessly under a cuff. At the 3 o’clock position, the delicately sized crown is decorated with a black onyx inlay, matching the supplied 12mm black caiman leather strap.

Seiko's Caliber 4J41

Taking a closer look at the mesmerizing dial, the Seiko Exceline Ref. SWDL160 features a warm gold dial with a unique grained pattern reminiscent of many Grand Seiko models such as the Kabuki Kimono dial present in the U.S. Limited Edition Grand Seiko ‘Kira-Zuri’ inspired by interwoven threads in kimono fabrics worn by kabuki theatrical actors. This dial also bears a close resemblance to the textured starlight dial on the Grand Seiko ref. 6145-8030.

Without any unnecessary clutter, the dial is kept minimal with only the Seiko logo and the ‘Exceline’ text present on the dial, drawing focus to the beautifully crafted dial that shimmers in the light. All the elements on the dial are executed to a high level of detail, from the gold tone polished dauphine hands to the baton hour markers. The dial is protected by a piece of sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the underside.

The 5.1mm wafer-thin profile watch

Producing high-performance quartz movements has been Seiko’s forte since their first ever quartz watch produced in 1969. After all, Seiko were the ones who brought the Swiss down to their knees with the innovation of quartz technology during the quartz crisis. The Seiko Exceline Ref. SWDL160 houses the Seiko Cal. 4J41 quartz movement, which achieves an astonishing accuracy of +/-10 seconds a year and a battery life of 2 years. The quartz movement is also one of the main contributing factors for Seiko to pull off such a thin case profile.

Seiko incorporated their strong watchmaking capabilities and an incredibly exquisite design to produce a charming dress watch for the discerning lady. Despite having a simple design, the Seiko spared no expense in many aspects of the watch, from the intricate dial to the highly accurate quartz movement. Like many other Seiko timepieces, this is another wonderful offering that packs serious value for the price. This would be a piece that brings your outfit to the next level; embrace the elegance with the Seiko Exceline Ref. SWDL160.
