Thanks to the dedication of its research and development department, Patrick’s Labs, the Ball Watch Company has succeeded in balancing functionality with design in this sophisticated sports timepiece for enhanced use. Originally designed for submarine exploration and diving, the Engineer Hydrocarbon Original 43 Ref. DM2218B-S1CJ-BE is equally at home in the water and on dry land. This 200m water-resistant, multi-finished steel watch measures at 43mm wide and 14.55mm tall, is not only versatile but suitable for most adventurers and explorers wrists, as well as more urban and conventional individuals.
The Original’s unidirectional bezel is graduated from its mid-case for easy adjustment by user at optimum level, even when the user has diving gloves on. The bezel insert reminds one of bakelite ones from the early 60s and 70s, while seemingly nostalgic, Ball uses a curved sapphire material with their signature micro gas tubes internally that glows for night reading capability. Oh, the screw-in crown flanged by the iconic crown guard protection system patented by Ball can be seen here, giving it the slight aggressive look.

Completing the whole over-built theme, the Original gets the centre-polished sports bracelet that tapers down, with Ball’s patented folding buckle and extension system.
Today, more than ever, Ball Watch is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the exploration of modern and evolution of watchmaking history. Decended from a revered heritage of superlative toughness, the Engineer Hydrocarbon Original is their testimony, featuring bold design that integrates our micro gas tubes below the dial for new shapes of luminosity. In Underwater darkness, the sapphire bezel’s gas tubes reveal an illuminated countdown, while anti-magnetic protection to 80000 A/m with their patented Amortiser Anti-shock system welcome all adversity. In extreme conditions, a new icon rises and shines. The Engineer Hydrocarbon Original 43 Ref. DM2218B-S1CJ-BE is one of those watch that comes from a watchmaking house once ran America’s railroads and now accompanies world explorers to live freely and fearlessly. To be yourself.
