In 1891, Webster C. Ball became recognised around the world for setting the official railroad standard of timekeeping which greatly influenced the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, or COSC, that sets the standard for current mechanical watch accuracy today. This Ball Engineer II Ohio 40mm watch is one of their most practical and sophisticated timepieces that reflects the extensive and experienced heritage of the brand.

Unveiling the newest Engineer II, Ball has clad a reliable automatic movement in one of their most popular Engineer Master II models. The Ball Engineer II Ohio White Ref. NM2026C-S5J-WH1 measures in at 40mm in diameter, and lug to lug of 48mm, with a height of 13.8mm. The dimension allows the wearer to have unisex wearability. Further, it features a screwed-in crown, commonly found on most Ball’s watches, allowing it to have a 100m water resistant. Once the time and date adjustments are done, screw back the crown will enable one to wind it up for some action.

What makes the Engineer II durable is the use of 316L stainless steel through and through. The case distills multi-polished finishing throughout, where the top surface is satined finished while the sides and bezel are mirror polished. Here, the case houses Ball’s anti-shock system, allowing for a remarkable shock resistance tested up to 5,000Gs.

Moving on to the dial, the new Engineer II clads 15 micro gas tubes on the dial’s periphery and hands, while keeping the applied hour markers in trapezoid shape, 12, 6 and 9 Arabic numerals slightly bigger, helping legibility when reading the time. 14 of them glows in bright green while the big one at 12 glows in deep orange to assist in dial orientation in the dark.

Couple this with a tapered sword style hour and minute hands, Couple this with their signature seconds hand with Ball’s “RR” symbol as counterweight on the other end. This particular model comes with a day and date display, located at 3’ o clock position. Topping things off for the dial, the Engineer II has a domedsapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating underneath.

The Engineer II Ohio is powered by the Ball RR1102 automatic movement, which is a ETA 2836-2. Ball puts an emphasis on accuracy under adverse conditions. The Aviator is ISO1413 certified to withstand up to 5,000g of shock resistance.

The new Engineer II's bracelet runs alongside with the star of the show, paired with their elegant solid links bracelet made out of 316 steel, done with a nice mixture of polished and satin finished throughout. The bracelet, for the first time, gets a nice tapering from 20mm to 18mm at the clasp area, making it more wearable. Further features a double-sided locking clasp system which makes the bracelet more streamlined when being worn.

Summing things up, the Ball Engineer II Ohio edition exhibits exceptional value given to enthusiasts who appreciate fine watchmaking that packs reliability and value from a respected watch company. Ball’s anti-shock system, self-illuminating tritium tubes and exceptional case and bracelet finishing. We think it will be difficult to find another watch with similar specifications without going to the next price category.
