Yema Wristmaster Adventure Blue |
We all are familiar with countless exceptional watches made by the Swiss and Japanese that are dominating the market. Nonetheless, the French also displayed excellence in the fine art of watchmaking with the creation of many beautifully decorated haute horlogerie pieces and complex movements. While YEMA may not be a name that the masses are entirely familiar with, it is a brand synonymous with the production of fine French-made timepieces and an incredibly rich heritage. Founded in 1948 by French watchmaker Henry Louis Belmont, YEMA has demonstrated remarkable mastery in watchmaking with the creative integration of innovative designs to their ever-dependable tool watches.
At first glance, the 316L stainless steel case of the YEMA Wristmaster Adventurer Blue is instantly recognizable from its highly-distinctive case shape and barrel-shaped lugs reminiscent of neo-vintage steel cases from the 60s. Like many of YEMA’s other timepieces, the dimensions here really shine with a really pleasing size fitting for a watch of this nature. Presented with a retro 37mm case diameter, a size taken directly from the original 1960s model, the traditional size evokes heaps of classic charm while making this a modern piece with a reasonable lug to lug distance of 48mm and a case thickness of 12mm (including domed crystal).

Neo-Vintage dress watch with iconic case |
Accompanied with a no-crownguard design, the 60s simplicity of a dress watch is beautifully brought to the foreground with fine vertical brushing at the top and a high polish at the side of the case. The vintage look is further enhanced with a 20mm brown stitched leather strap, fitting snugly in between the lugs.
The large dial opening of the YEMA Wristmaster Adventurer Blue captures a gorgeous 60s appearance with a matte blue crosshair dial adorned with significantly raised faceted silver indices and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. Additionally, the boxy BGW9 Swiss Super-LumiNova treated handset and needle seconds hand brings the entire dial together for an enchanting period-correct experience. Apart from the printed YEMA logo, at the 6 o’clock position rests a funky ‘Wristmaster’ imprint in a cool old-school font. The dial is then complete with a 1.80mm thick double domed hesalite crystal, creating stunning curved distortions from various angles for that resolute vintage look.

The YEMA Wristmaster Adventurer Blue is powered by the second-generation in-house Caliber YEMA2000 automatic movement, a stepped-up variation of the MBP1000 Caliber. This magnificent movement yields slightly enhanced precision and durability with optimized components, giving the movement a healthy power reserve of approximately 42 hours. This 29 jewel movement beats at a rate of 28,800 beats per hour with thorough accuracy checks by YEMA watchmakers. On top of that, the movement is gorgeously decorated with stripes and stunning perlage finishing that reflects on their fine craft in producing an in-house movement. Equipped with a screw-in caseback embedded with YEMA’s historic crest, the watch is water resistant to 100m/330 feet.
Overall, the YEMA Wristmaster Adventurer Blue reveals an interesting take on a 60s-inspired dress watch with an attractive design recalling past references. YEMA has been producing some really outstanding watches from their iconic Superman to various stunning collaboration models, however this latest release has impressed us once again, proving time and time again how amazing the French are at making such phenomenal timepieces.
