U-Boat presents its most daring creation yet: the U-65, a timepiece that boldly defies traditional watchmaking. With its striking hypercurved design and futuristic silhouette, this avant-garde Italian masterpiece doesn't just tell time—it transforms it, inviting the wearer into a world where creativity, rebellion, and innovation take centre stage.

Despite being a rather young watch manufacturer that stepped into the industry, U-Boat has grown rapidly to establish a huge following for their unique military-inspired designs combining a tasteful Italian flair and the exceptional precision of Swiss watchmaking. U-boat was founded in 2000 by Italo Fontana when he discovered his grandfather's detailed pencil sketches depicting robust watches carrying a masculine yet refined character. The name 'U-Boat' has its origins from a series of watches intended to be created for Italian Navy Pilots back in 1942 with designs that emphasized water resistance, durability and extreme precision. Unfortunately, this project never materialized. However, through the determination and strong resolve of Italo, his grandfather's valuable sketches were brought to life, giving birth to the U-Boat we know today.

It is clear U-Boat takes incredible pride in the making of their watches, having every single U-Boat timepiece individually handcrafted and assembled in Lucca, central Italy by master watchmakers. Many of U-Boat's timepieces embody the unique designs, impeccable performance and remarkable attention to detail from the past designs of Ilvo, Italo's grandfather. We can certainly see why the brand has gained such a massive following, even to be seen on wrists of Hollywood's renowned actors including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise.

Equipped with a brushed AISI 316L stainless steel case, the substantial 44mm case diameter of the U-Boat U-65 44mm SS White definitely feels familiar, evoking a bold and powerful wrist presence that many U-Boat watches bring. Together with its lug to lug distance of 53.6mm and a case thickness of 18.5mm, contouring around the wrist, aided by its curved, movable lugs that adjust for a perfect fit. . The watch is supplied with a soft, velvety black silicone strap, available in 22mm, personalised with the logo of the Maison in relief and secured with a Damascus steel tongue buckle.

Undoubtedly, the centerpiece of the U-65 White is its striking grey skeletonised dial, immersed in a special ultra-clear oil that animates the entire timepiece. Beneath the crystal, the three-layer skeletonized  dial projects a bold industrial character. Crisp white markers at 12, 8, and 4 treated with Super-LumiNova stand out, while arrow-style hour and second hands appear to float above the dial, creating a dynamic sense of motion and depth that highlights the watch's avant-garde design.

The space between the dial and the highly domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is filled to amplify the three-layer skeleton's intensity, making the crystal appear almost invisible—a mesmerising effect that draws the eye repeatedly. A visible air bubble beneath the dial compensates for temperature changes, maintaining the watch at an optimal 0° to +60°C when not on the wrist, ensuring precision and reliability.

The U-65's design is further defined by the removal of the traditional left-side crown, creating a cleaner, more minimalist aesthetic. Time adjustment is reimagined: instead of a crown, a discreet button at the centre of the case back allows hour-by-hour setting. This innovative system keeps the dial uninterrupted, letting the design take centre stage.

Battery hatch at the back for easy replacement

The U-Boat U-65 SS White is driven by the Swiss Ronda 756 quartz movement. Not only is the movement extremely accurate with an estimated battery life of 84 months, utilizing a quartz movement allows the U-65 to be completely lubricated in the oil bath (non-conductive fluid). At the back of the case, U-Boat's innovative locking ring system houses the movement in place while providing an ample water resistance of 5 ATM (50m). For a quick battery change without removing the case back, a convenient hatch is integrated for a hassle-free experience.
