Since the release of Mido’s Commander line-up in 1959 featuring a one-piece case design inspired by the Eiffel Tower, this renowned Swiss watchmaker has tirelessly updated this phenomenal watch collection with bold timepieces that impress with their unexpected designs. Today, Mido continues to astound with the Commander Gradient Steel, a refreshing new addition which flaunts a satin-finished classy round case that stays true to this popular watch collection. This watch presents, for the very first time, a smoky acrylic dial with a seamless gradient that bestows it with an attractive depth, unlike any other.

This timepiece exudes beauty from the inside out with its finely decorated Elaboré-grade automatic movement known as the Mido Caliber 80 (ETA C07.661 base), which has an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. Peeking from under a smoky gradient dial, this exquisite movement shows off its Geneva stripes and Mido logo from the timepiece’s sapphire exhibition case. Admire the many intricate details put into the making of this movement which is crafted with 25 jewels and operates at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertz).

The Commander Gradient Steel measures 40mm with a height of 10.84mm and a lug width of 21mm. Mido exclusively uses 316L stainless steel for this watch case to achieve a sleek brilliance that makes this timepiece stand out from its contemporaries. This case material not only resists corrosion, but also boasts excellent durability and is non-magnetic. Marvel at the contrast of the satin-brushed sides of its case with its polished top surface that bestows this watch with a sporty masculine look.

In addition to its screw-down case back, this timepiece is built with a screw-down signed crown which allows for a water resistance of 50m. This watch is protected with a flat sapphire crystal which has anti-reflective treatment on both sides that not only offers great legibility under any lighting conditions but also complements its handsome design. Strong and shock-resistant, this crystal will maintain its exceptional transparency for many years.

What sets the Commander Gradient Steel apart is its unique black gradient dial featuring applied markers filled with Super-LumiNova which glows green in the dark. This partially-tinted acrylic dial enhances the legibility of its rectangular applied indexes with a darker outer dial which fades smoothly into a clear transparent at the centre of this timepiece, revealing the grand gear work of the Mido Caliber 80 powering the watch. Complemented with a slender bezel framing a gently sloping flange, this charming skeleton dial offers a striking contrast to its distinct polished diamond-cut hour and minute hands that are unique to Mido’s iconic Commander collection.

Additionally, the date wheel can be seen clearly through this intriguing smoky dial, allowing for clear date display at a glance.

This remarkable timepiece comes on a multi-finished stainless steel bracelet which extends seamlessly from its case that is made from the same material, allowing it to form a single perfect timepiece that ensures comfortable wear while withstanding the harshest conditions. With a satin-brushed top surface and polished sides, this metal bracelet is also fitted with a Mido signed clasp which shows off a shiny full polish.

Superluminova on every hour markers and handset

Mysterious, magnificent and masculine, the Commander Gradient Steel’s stunning smoky fumé dial is Mido’s ingenious reinterpretation of the famous Parisian landmark and is what makes this watch stand out amongst the other well-received timepieces in the Commander collection. Just like the Eiffel tower, this watch is an emblem of Mido’s years of horology that makes history with its bold urban design embodying all the splendour of this world-famous tower on your wrist.
