Hamilton American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 - Ltd Ed 2000pcs Ref. H13605130 |
Hamilton's latest drop in the American Classic collection is the striking American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition. Designed in collaboration with Yoji Shinkawa, the game's art director, the timepiece perfectly complements the postapocalyptic world of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. As one of the most highly anticipated game releases in recent years, Death Stranding 2, crafted by Kojima Productions and featuring major actors like Léa Seydoux, blends cinematic storytelling with futuristic sci fi elements. The watch not only reflects this imagined future with its bold, angular design, but also makes an appearance within the game itself. At its core, the concept is simple yet compelling: a futuristic reinterpretation of the classic Boulton, bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern digital culture.
First introduced in 1941, the Hamilton Boulton is a true classic. This latest iteration boldly reimagines the original with a futuristic edge, housed in a lightweight titanium case finished in bold black PVD. Measuring 48mm by 36mm and 13.7mm thick, the slightly tonneau-shaped rectangular case marks a dramatic evolution in design. Its curved top is fitted with a sapphire crystal featuring antireflective coating, while each side reveals lattices holding three additional sapphire crystals, offering unexpected and captivating side views of the dial and hands. A push pull signed crown sits neatly at the side of the case, treated in the same black PVD finish to maintain the watch's cohesive, stealthy aesthetic.

The arched spans of the case subtly overhang the dial, creating visual depth while partially framing the display. The dial itself is intricately layered, stepped twice to enhance its dimensionality. The middle ring features an additional set of printed hour markers, while the center bears the Hamilton name, logo, and the word "Automatic" in a muted grey. Surrounding it, the outermost section has a finely media blasted texture that hosts the applied markers. A vivid pop of bright orange at the 12 o'clock index and seconds hand injects energy into the otherwise monochromatic palette of blacks and greys. Brushed, skeletonized hour and minute hands, sculpted in elongated ovals, add a touch of retro futurism. There is no lume, further emphasizing the watch's sleek, industrial tone. The applied markers, with their brushed surfaces and polished chamfers, catch the light just enough to lend a refined sparkle. The overall design feels distinctly futuristic, yet echoes the bold creativity of 1970s watchmaking.
Inside the watch beats the automatic Hamilton caliber H-10, essentially an ETA C07.611 derived from the well known ETA 2824. The frequency is tuned to 21,600 vibrations per hour, allowing for an extended power reserve of up to 80 hours. Enhancing its performance, a Nivachron balance spring offers resistance against magnetic fields and temperature variations. The movement is visible through a rectangular sapphire crystal on the case back, subtly decorated with a pattern resembling the tar seen in the game. Surrounding it, the black frame is engraved with each watch's unique limited edition number, along with key details such as its 50 meter water resistance and reference number.

The titanium bracelet with 21mm lug width, finished with a sandblasted texture and coated in deep black PVD, adds a bold and cohesive flow from case to clasp. Fitted with a sleek butterfly clasp, the bracelet maintains its full width without tapering, giving it a strong, futuristic silhouette. It wraps around the wrist like a sculpted piece of wearable tech, blurring the line between timepiece and design object.
Yoji Shinkawa shares, "It took more than two years to design and develop the watch that appears in 'Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,' running parallel to the production of the game." This watch embodies the fearless spirit of an indie brand, bold, adventurous, and unbound by convention, setting it apart from larger brands that often play it safe to appeal to the widest audience. While only time will tell if video game themed watches gain lasting traction and crossover appeal, Hamilton's bold move signals an exciting new chapter. Limited to just 2,000 pieces, this release stands as a testament to Hamilton's willingness to innovate and explore fresh creative territories, bridging the worlds of horology and gaming with confidence and style.
