Since its inception in 1968, the Seiko 5 Sports collection of mechanical watches has been equated with longevity and accuracy. The relaunched collection in 2019 added a youthful zest to this decades-old collection.2022 saw the release of a new collection with a GMT caliber based on the tried and tested platform of Caliber 4R. With this trailblazing move, this new series of three designs (the Seiko 5 Sports GMT Series) provides the international convenience of a GMT function.
Gnomon Watches offers a watch with a blue dial with a bicolor blue and black bezel (SSK003). This new GMT model with stainless steel case material has a diameter that is only upsized by 0.5mm to 42.5mm (as compared to the Seiko 5 Sports models of 2019), and is13.6mm in thickness, (only 0.1mm more than the 2019 models).

For high-contrast and seamless reading, the GMT hand is in bright red and the dial has a 24-hour hand and a stop seconds hand function. Even in low light conditions, the time of day hands and indexes as well as the GMT hand have a profuse layer of Lumibrite for legibility. Design-wise, the watch boasts of a rotating 24-hour bezel as well as a 24-hour indicator in the inverted chapter-ring/rehaut. Hence the dial can remain comparatively clean and legible, with the addition of the GMT text underneath the script Automatic.
This is the only model from Seiko where the bezel is done in two distinct colors (the others are in gray and black) to distinguish the night and day hours at one glance. Moreover, the bezel’s ring indicator is made of Seiko’s Hardlex glass for premium durability for which the Seiko 5 Sports collection is eminent. The watch with 24 jewels and a see-through case back has a magnified date window at three o'clock and is powered by 4R34 automatic movement that provides leeway for a fourth hand – the GMT hand as well as a power reserve of approximately 41 hours.

A newly-designed five-row Jubilee-esque bracelet and three-fold clasp with secure lock and push button release, inspired by the classic SKX, adorn the watch. Furthermore, an exhibit caseback enables wearers to view the newly-crafted 4R34 movement.
Whether you are a fan of the previous Crown-bearing divers series or the classic SKX, this model from the Seiko 5 Sports GMT Series is something not to be missed.
