Hamilton enjoys a renowned legacy in American watchmaking for an array of watches, including aviation and railroad ones. The brand produced the “Canteen” watch worn by the U.S. Navy “frogmen” (the predecessors of the Navy SEALs) during the Second World War. Hamiliton launched the commercial version of this watch in 1951. 7 decades later, Hamilton has now given the Frogman watch a total revamp. Recently, the brand has unveiled its latest-generation Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic Black Ref. H77825331 with a modern look.

At 46mm-wide and 13.58mm-thick, one may think that the stainless steel case of this recent Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic should have a commanding presence on the wrist. However, the case design is actually angular, clean and boasts some distinctive visuals. For instance, the lugs remind one of classic diver fare with tapering angular profiles and defined, flat brushed planar surfaces. Moreover, the gear-toothed unidirectional bezel has a matte insert in either black or bare metal with an elevated and well polished dive scale.
The case sides of the Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic enables it to bask in its unique identity. The 9 o’clock side of the case has a squared-off projection together with an engraved Hamilton emblem as a counterpoise to the low-profile crown guards. A continuous polished chamfer glides smoothly from lug tip to lug tip.

The dial of the new Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic evokes a more sinewy vibe with its no-date layout, textured matte black dial surface dotted by rectangular indices and angular applied Arabic numerals at 12 o’clock. A handset, with a blunted arrow-style hours hand coupled to a similarly blunted dauphine minutes hand edged in blazing signal orange gives the watch its strong character. A matching signal orange tip for the central seconds hand alerts the wearer to the most vital timekeeping aspects when underwater. The utilitarian features from its predecessors remain in this watch with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal for enhanced legibility, underwater Super-LumiNova luminescence for excellent underwater reading.
Furthermore, a robust and stylized loop-style outer crown safeguards the Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic’s heavy-knit 3 o’clock crown as well as prevents the crown from being displaced in the water. This case design that culminates with an etched solid caseback with a scuba mask motif is ready for deep sea adventures with up to 300 meters of water resistance.

Finishing the dive watch theme, the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman comes on a khaki green rubber strap with accordion design near its 22mm lugs. This combination further enhanced the military aesthetic for a Khaki diver.
For this H77825331, Hamilton has installed the solid and reliable caliber H-10 movement eminent for its clockwork precision and superior 80-hour power reserve. A cutting-edge alloy, Nivachron, comprises its balance spring and is decidedly anti-magnetic. Additionally, it can resist shock and temperature changes.
SuperLuminova for Superb Glow In Dark |
With an intrepid new look, the Khaki Navy Frogman Automatic is Hamilton’s most technically capable maritime-ready watch. Indeed, this watch is an essential in deep-water surroundings and is worth a purchase.
