20 ATMOS Classic Ceramic MK 2

(4 Reviews)

It’s been a while since the 20 Atmos gets some fresh novelty, until recently… The new 20 Atmos dive watch has just gotten some upgrades for the highly coveted 200m diver’s collection from Squale. With improved new case construction, new crown system, and new bracelet to freshen things up a little.

Squale 20 ATMOS Classic Ceramic MK 2

Let us introduce you the 20 Atmos Classic Ceramic MK 2. It starts from the new bezel insert. The ceramic bezel is first to cut into shape, and then the numbers are carefully engraved by machines made, especially for this purpose. Next, the engraved ceramic bezel is superheated to 1500 degrees to harden and purify the ceramic. The engraved numerals on the hardened bezel are then carefully filled with silver paint. The excess on the surface of the bezel is then polished to a high gloss leaving only the numerals filled permanently. Virtually indestructible and impervious to scratches, the ceramic bezel will last for years to come since this new variant exhibits classic styling, the luminous pip did in roasted caramel tone that matches its dial.

Compared to the previous version, the all new MK 2 has improved the bezel function, where the click feels more tactile and solid when in rotation. It a nice touch for dive watch lovers as it shows Squale precision in its case-making. The improved bezel has deep polished grooves machined into it for a good grip. It rotates smoothly into 120 positions in a counter-clockwise direction. Further refinement on its case, a new intricate mixture of satin brush on the top surfaces and mirror polishing on the sides, can be seen throughout the watch, including the 20mm bracelet.

Speaking of the sports bracelet, Squale offers a 2-piece structured end-links for the first time. Through this new design it allows the band to wrap around the wrist ergonomically and comfortably, accentuating a better overall experience. It also has a diver extension for those who want to bring it for some adventure. The 20 Atmos MK 2 comes with a flat sapphire crystal with a 2.5 times magnifying cyclop. The sapphire crystal is also coated with anti-reflective on the inside for better clarity.

The 200m water resistant stainless steel case measure 40mm case without the crown has a lug-to-lug length of 47mm, and a thickness of about 13mm, with a lug width of 20mm. The short curved-down lugs mean that the watch sits nicely on all wrist sizes. The crown itself pays tribute to those vintage Squale, and its system has been improved from the previous generation with deeper grooves on the crown for a better grip. Even a more substantial screw thread is used here for a more positive screw-down action.

Quality Hand finished in Switzerland
The new 20 Atmos Classic Ceramic MK 2 stays true to the uber black dial diver ethos, with improved new case construction, new crown system, and new material to freshen things up a little. The highlight of Squale is probably the iconic dial design synonymous with dive watches of the 60s. A classic design that will never go out style. What differentiates the 20 Atmos Classic from the 20 Atmos Maxi is the dial finishing. The 20 Atmos Classic has a gloss black dial with applied luminous index to give it a more contemporary looks. While the latter has a matte black dial with maxi luminous for a vintage vibe. Furthermore, the dial layout is complemented by Squale's “Mercedes” handset that now comes with an increased length for better visual balance. That said, all the hands and hour markers are executed in Super-LumiNova for legibility timekeeping in all conditions.

The Squale 20 Atmos MK 2 is powered by Swiss automatic movement, Sellita SW200-1, operating at 28,800 bph (4 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 26 jewels with a power reserve of 38 hours.

SuperLuminova for Superb Glow In Dark

The 2023’s Squale 20 Atmos MK 2 is a quality watch that combines vintage elements with more modern trends, reputed on its dial side. It is very well put together with these amazing upgrades at great pricing. It probably rivals watches that cost a few times its asking price. As like before, this second version of the Squale 20 Atmos is a Gnomon Exclusive and will be priced for direct selling. The mixture of premium satin and polished parts with ceramic bezel gives the watch a sense of quality. The 20 Atmos MK 2 is an excellent addition to any dive watch collection or for the first time collector. If you are in the market for a great watch with history, and yet doesn't break the bank, this is probably it.
