Seiko Prospex 1968 Re-Creation Hi-Beat 55th Anniversary - Ltd Ed 1100pcs Ref. SBEX011

Celebrate 55 years of horology with Seiko as this famous Japanese watchmaker releases the stunning 1965 Diver’s Re-creation. Presenting the Seiko Prospex 1968 Re-Creation Hi-Beat Limited Edition Ref. SBEX011, a fine remake of Seiko’s first ever mono-block, Hi-beat dive watch. This limited-edition timepiece is powered by a high grade automatic 8L35 Caliber, a variant of the Grand Seiko 9S85 movement that is only used in a handful of Prospex dive watches in the past five years. Made with the utmost attention to detail by Seiko's skilled craftsmen in the Shizuku-ishi Watch Studio in Morioka, Japan, this movement operates at 36,000 bph and has a power reserve of 55 hours.

Without the usual “X” logo that characterises Seiko’s Prospex lines, this watch flaunts a sunburst blue-grey dial, unique to Seiko’s 55th anniversary line-up, that captures the beauty of the sea. The subtle ombre of this dial is inspired by the gradual fading of light as one dives deeper into the sea. Furthermore, the SBEX011 is fitted with a screw-down crown branded with the vintage Seiko logo that allows for a 300m water resistance.

The SBEX001 remains faithful to the original 6159-7001 Diver 300 design released in 1968 while showing off an update with the use of Seiko’s Ever-Brilliant Steel in its mono-bloc case construction. Increasing corrosion resistance, this case material gets its name from its brilliant white hue that sets this watch apart from other Seiko timepieces. This watch case is analogous to the original 1968 design with an identical diameter of 44.8mm and is branded with the same Seiko emblem encircled by a horse-shoe engraving as the 6159-7001 diver on its back that commemorate Seiko’s 55th anniversary and Japan’s first-ever 300m high-beat dive watch.

This watch comes on a blue waffle rubber strap that complements the ocean blue hue of its dial that bestows the piece with an athletic look. To top it off, this exquisite diver is encased in a black 55th anniversary box that proudly showcases Seiko’s signature dolphin emblem. The epitome of Seiko’s dive watches and one of the best recreations of the original 1968 6159-7001 diver, this model has a production of only 1100 pieces and is fully up to date in its specifications and execution which is testament to Seiko’s high standards and customer-centric ethos.
