May 22, 2024

The combination of black and gold gives everything a touch of sophistication. According to colour psychology, using contrasting colours of black and gold creates a sense of elegance and authority. For this reason, upscale brands often use gold and black to communicate the confidence and luxury they represent. More than that, I love the stylish versatility of gold and black and the aesthetic balance they bring to any design. And in playing with the different tones, hues, and intensities, we get different looks. In November’s Lookbook, let us take you on an exploration, from classy to laid-back and stark utility, of the different hues of classic gold and black in ascending dial sizes.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Handwinding Bronze 38 Ref. H69459530

Starting at 38mm, is the muted gold and black watch from Hamilton, the Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze. As a remake of the 1960s military watch, the Khaki Field Mechanical is sturdy and reliable yet feels amazingly light on the wrist. Its large number markers are coated with green Super- LumiNova, making time telling a breeze under all lighting conditions.

This 38mm watch with its leather nato straps oozes these chill and slightly rugged vibes, making it a versatile piece for daily casual wear. Sweatshirt, jeans, and your trusty Khaki Field Mechanical, you are set for anything! The best part about this watch is that its bronze case acquires a unique patina over time, making it solely yours. A watch that grows with you stays with you.

Evant Tropic Diver 39 Remastered

Developed as an all-rounder sports watch, this particular Adventure Sports pairs perfectly with a dark blue At 39mm, the Evant Tropic Diver 39  sits perfectly on most wrists and is fit for most occasions. Its black and pale gold combination exudes a timeless elegance that carries you from work to play. This reimagined vintage sports timepiece shines through in the most surprising ways; we love how its black radial-brushed sunburst dial catches the light and catches our eye.

Even in low lighting conditions, the applied Swiss ‘Old-Radium’ Super-LumiNova on the minimalist markers will just glow you up. The improved bakelite ceramic bezel elevates its luminous look, while its “beads-of-rice” stainless steel bracelet delivers comfortable and elegant wear. This is one dive watch you can take with you indoors to outdoors, from land to water (up to 300m).

Seiko Presage “Style60’s” Series Open-Heart Rose Gold Ref. SARY192

The heart of our black and gold feature lies the Seiko’s Presage “Style60s” Series Open-Heart Rose Gold. As we ascend to this 40.8mm dial, our eyes are immediately captivated by the open-heart dial, where we can see the heartbeat of this fine piece’s exclusively designed 4R39 caliber. The 24-hour subdial creates the perfect balance of elegance and sportsmanship when paired with the open-heart subdial.

With gold details on black and its gold PVD stainless steel case, this Seiko’s Presage “Style60s” Series Open-Heart Rose Gold is stylish enough as a dress watch and sturdy enough as a sophisticated sports watch. This watch is one of the seven iterations of Japan’s first wrist chronograph, so you might notice how its dauphine hands and applied hour indexes resemble the 1964 Crown Chronograph. This watch is undoubtedly the perfect mix of elegance and sporty.

Le Jour Le Mans Chronograph Rose Gold Ref. LJ-LM-013

Moving up, we come to the sparkling Le Mans Chronograph from Le Jour, the historic manufacturer of quality Swiss-made mechanical timepieces. Its rose gold bezel with tachymeter is coated with IP, which adds to its lustre and durability. Contrasting within the stainless steel case is the black sunburst dial and the three rose gold subdials shimmering through at the 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions.

The brushed finish of the lugs glides down to the polished chamfer and the stainless steel oyster-style bracelet, giving this sturdy watch a striking presence. Even at 42mm, this classic piece wears well on the wrist. The Le Mans Chronograph Rose Gold harmonises all its contrasting details to present a polished and sporty look. This means it can be your ideal wrist partner for boardrooms and dining rooms, sports, and play—a definite classic piece.

Steinhart Nav B-Chrono II Black DLC 44mm

Lastly, we come to this collection’s largest and most handsome watch, the Nav B-Chrono II Black DLC. The 44mm striking black case immediately draws your attention to dials and subdials. Matched with vintage radium hands, it is visually appealing and ranks high on the readability scale. You can see the intricacies of this design in how 6 and 9 are cleverly used as part of the subdials.

Turn it around, and you will see the exhibition case, where you can watch the Swiss Made ETA Valjoux 7750 caliber dance to the tune of its gold rotor. The matte black casing, paired with pilot tan leather, emanates a sense of robustness and confidence. We like this chunky watch as a statement piece; its simplicity stands out with clarity, and you just can’t miss it. A must-have for all aviation watch lovers!
