Closer Look: Prospex 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation
The birth of the first Seiko diver’s watch (unofficially) had begun in 1959 with their 21 jewel, manual winding, Seiko Cronos Sea Horse, that was equipped with a screw down case back, good to a 50m depth. Moving on to the 1960s, Seiko released the 6217 diver (known as 62MAS) as their official automatic dive watch, that was further reissued in 2017 as the SLA017 Limited Edition. The Seiko Marine Master Pro. Diver Ref. SLA021 / SBDX023 is the successor of the highly acclaimed MM300 SBDX017 which was discontinued last year but not without some much needed upgrades to keep it current. And today, Seiko incorporates a more casual version that punches above the SBDC12X “Baby MM200” series, while avoiding being too serious all at the same time. The brand further injects the “Save The Ocean” elements into this high-end dive watch that will support marine conservation initiatives.
