Alongside Seiko's rich and ever-growing sporting heritage in the field of professional diving most of us are vastly familiar with throughout the Prospex collection, producing high-precision timing instruments has also been a forte for the Japanese brand as one of the earliest brands to produce an automatic chronograph in the watchmaking industry. That being said, Seiko introduces a series of six new stunning chronographs models to the Prospex line up, consisting of two mechanical models and four stunning solar-powered models that joins the collection.
Seiko set a stage for themselves on an international level with the endorsement of their incredibly accurate time-measuring equipments by sports federations worldwide in many of the world's leading sports events, this success was made possible with the incorporation of Seiko's "heart-shaped cam" mechanism, a revolutionary development which delivered a level of precision once thought unachievable by manual sports timing devices. Following the release of the 1964 Crown Chronograph during the Summer Olympics, in May 1969, Seiko launched the Seiko Speedtimer, the world's first mass-produced automatic chronograph timepiece driven by a column wheel and vertical clutch, an especially favored feature that became widespread in today's scene of high-end chronograph watches. These were phenomenal watches that allowed Seiko to be established as one of the leaders in wristwatch chronograph technology, and these series of newly-released models certainly pays a strong tribute to the mighty performance and visual beauty of their eminent forefathers.

The Speedtimer features a dual crown setup, with the 3 o'clock crown handling standard time adjustments while the 4 o'clock crown controls the inner rotating ring, activating a mechanical countdown timer that is pure motorsport functionality on the wrist. This clever complication allows precise measurement of critical race intervals, from the tense countdown before a start to the razor-sharp timing of pit stops, tire changes, and refuelling. Rated to 200m water resistance, it is as dependable underwater as it is trackside, blending Seiko's rugged engineering with racing-inspired precision.
The dial sits beneath a curved sapphire crystal, proudly bearing the Prospex logo at six o'clock as a nod to its racing heritage. Finished in a vertically brushed cream to ensure maximum legibility under harsh light, while vivid orange accents on the seconds hand and chapter ring add both energy and precision. Applied indices and hands treated with LumiBrite, along with a luminous pip on the ring, deliver crisp visibility in the dark, making this a dial that fuses motorsport functionality with Seiko's storytelling craftsmanship.
Inside beats Seiko's modern 6R55 automatic caliber, a workhorse movement running at 21,600 vibrations per hour with 24 jewels and an extended 72-hour power reserve that gives you a full three days off the wrist without skipping a beat. Flipping the watch over reveals the screw-in caseback where the Seiko icon proudly engraved.
