Based in Hölstein, Switzerland, and established in 1904, Oris is a renowned independent watchmaker celebrated for offering exceptional value in Swiss-made horology. For over a century, the brand has remained committed to its core values of innovation and authentic craftsmanship, leading to the 2014 launch of the ProPilot series. Designed with aviation professionals in mind, the collection draws direct inspiration from the functional instruments of aircraft cockpits, blending rugged durability with Swiss precision.
Back in 1965, Oris stood at a crossroads, successfully fighting to overturn a restrictive Swiss law that had long stifled innovation. With that hurdle cleared, the brand was finally free to push boundaries, leading to the 1966 debut of their first lever escapement watch—a milestone they proudly christened the Oris Star. Sixty years later, the Oris Star Edition returns as a tribute to that historic victory and to Dr. Portmann's pivotal role in securing the brand's mechanical future. By reviving the Star Edition today, Oris bridges six decades of heritage with a design that feels every bit as inspired and relevant as the original.

Debuted at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, the new Star Edition is a faithful nod to the original's iconic silhouette. Its 35mm barrel-shaped case is a masterclass in proportions, with integrated lugs that flow effortlessly into the design for a clean, cohesive look. The multi-piece stainless steel construction strikes a perfect balance between deep satin-brushed surfaces and sharp, polished bevels, all centered around a polished bezel that adds a touch of vintage elegance. Despite its robust build, the watch remains incredibly wearable with a slender 11.1mm profile and a compact 41.5mm lug-to-lug distance, ensuring it sits naturally on any wrist.
Positioned securely at 3 o'clock, the stainless steel screw-in crown is engraved with the Oris signature. It's a design choice that balances form with function, ensuring the watch remains robust enough for the daily grind. Complemented by a 50-meter water resistance, the Star Edition is perfectly equipped for everyday wear and light aquatic activities, staying true to its identity as a reliable, go-anywhere companion.

The dial is protected by a domed plexi-crystal that lends a warm, vintage character while maintaining excellent clarity. The silvery, brushed dial keeps the aesthetic elegantly understated, sparsely decorated with twin-baton markers and square-tipped hands. In a delicious 1960s throwback, the words "Star," "Automatic," and "26 Jewels" make a proud return, centered by a classic cross-hair motif and balanced by an asymmetrical date window at 3 o'clock. Despite its mid-century soul, the Star Edition is built for the modern day; high-grade Super-LumiNova is applied to both the indices and the entire handset, providing a brilliant glow that keeps the watch perfectly legible long after the sun goes down. It is a thoughtful blend of retro charm and contemporary reliability that feels right at home on the wrist.
Powered by the Calibre 733-1, an innovative, in-house movement developed by Oris, setting a new benchmark for automatic mechanical movements. This 26-jewel movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a 41 hours power reserve. Highly resistant to magnetism, it incorporates over 30 non-ferrous components, including silicon parts, ensuring exceptional durability and accuracy. the caseback is beautifully engraved with the evocative 1960s Oris Shield crest, a final, tactile nod to the heritage that started it all.

True to its roots, the watch is set on a classic black leather strap that perfectly complements its mid-century aesthetic.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the Oris Star, the brand has revived this iconic nameplate with a permanent, non-limited edition that pays sincere tribute to decades of horological history. The Oris Star Edition strikes a rare balance—it is at once sober and utilitarian, yet undeniably stylish and sophisticated. It feels like a vintage classic reborn, perfect for those who don't just appreciate history, but cherish the elegance of a well-told story. On the wrist, the watch wraps beautifully; its intentional proportions offer a perfect size that feels inclusive and versatile for almost anyone. While it stays true to Oris's high standards of quality and modern functionality, the soul of the piece remains firmly rooted in its mid-century heritage. It is a celebration of one of the greatest chapters in Swiss watchmaking—a true enthusiast's piece. Cheers to Oris.
