On the last day of February, the Hitori team turns its attention to the Nexus Yuyake Nami Washi 夕焼け波, a collaborative work with artist Freckled Apple that explores the intersection of contemporary art and traditional craft. The series was first presented during an intimate exhibition held at the Gnomon Watches boutique in Millenia Walk, where long time collectors, new supporters, and members of the Hitori team gathered in a relaxed setting that felt closer to a reunion than a formal launch. At the centre of the project are dials cut directly from Freckled Apple’s original “Sunset Waves” paintings, executed on traditional Unryu washi. Rather than reproducing the artwork through scans or print, each dial is carefully measured and cut by hand, ensuring every piece carries a genuine fragment of the original composition. The delicate paper is then preserved through successive layers of hand brushed enamel and kiln firing, creating a porcelain like surface that protects the artwork while maintaining its organic texture. Two tonal expressions define the series: a restrained pink sunset that conveys calm introspection, and a richly saturated amber composition that radiates warmth and depth. Limited to sixty pieces for the Hitori community who have supported the emerging Nexus chapter, each watch stands as a singular artefact where painting, craft, and watchmaking converge, revealing its character gradually through light, material, and time.
