Meangraf Sous-Marine R60 - Leather

The Bôle family boasts a rich watchmaking history of several decades with its third generation, YEMA’s Managing Director and Head of Design, Christopher Bôle, now taking the reins of this legacy.

In 2022, Christopher reinterpreted the legendary 1960s Meangraf model by adding updated specifications while conserving the distinct retro character of the timepiece. With one look, one can tell that the Sous Marine R60 alludes to the eclectic dials of the 60s and 70s produced by YEMA and other watch brands. Today, we introduce you to the YEMA Meangraf Sous Marine R60 that is a contemporary timepiece designed to be versatile.

Take its case for instance. Made from 316L stainless steel, the case measures 39mm in diameter and only 20mm lug to lug. While it is 11.6mm thick, together with its stunning sapphire dome, you might think its height is 14mm. The  R60 has polished sides and a generous bevel along the mid-case, but is satin brushed across the top. Moreover, the case back and crown are screw-down and with the installation of a helium escape valve, this timepiece provides a sturdy 300m in water resistance to equip you for your next diving adventure.

Inspired by vintage MEANGRAF models, the original dark gray and light matt gray dial design is distinguishable by its imperceptibly recessed hour markers, its huge minutes and 24h rehauts, its trademark red vertical stripes as well as its sweeping second hand.

YEMA has kept its design language consistent in the R60’s case shape as well as the minute rehaut which points to the checkered flag pattern and pays tribute to the Citroen rally car livery. The Daytona-styled crown is prominent in this timepiece as well.

Moreover, the appealing and functional bi-directional diving bezel is partially fixed within the case itself,enveloped on four corners, while remaining readily operable. Hence, the friction mechanism is shielded from wear and tear. Besides, the lumed aluminum insert is capped in sapphire for additional texture and depth.

Complex case construction with helium escape valve

Stealing the limelight is the 2.6mm sapphire dome that leads to beautiful distortions from all angles. However, the dome still manages to enhance readability thanks to the placement of the applied indices on the inner portion of the dial by simply elongating those markers several millimeters at sharp angles. Asymmetry serves as a counterpoise to the dial, with the offset logo flanking the left and the red-rimmed date window at three, separated by the use of perpendicular red lines. The bold splash of white and red makes this timepiece a head-turner. Furthermore, BGW9 Super-LumiNova coats the hands, markers, and bezel indicators for a superior blue glow. Running this horological brainchild is the in-house YEMA2000 that beats reliably at 28 800vph, and enjoys a reported precision of +/-10 s/d and a sturdy power reserve of 42 hours.
