50 ATMOS Bronze Blue

Watches that utilized bronze material has been around for a while, and no doubt will be here to stay. The patina-trend got hyped when notable Italian dive watches were done so in bronze material. Right now, in continuation with the Italian’s influenza, what we have from the latest release at Basel Fair 2019 - the Squale 50 ATMOS Bronze Blue is the latest model introduced by Squale with this particular flair. The 50 ATMOS Bronze is now available in the refreshing blue color in which they are now not limited for everyone.

Given the popularity of Squale nowadays, this is limited and going to be quite a collector's model once sold. This is a whole new 50 ATMOS from Squale while sharing some similarities to the now very popular 50 ATMOS.

Starting things off, the Squale 50 ATMOS Bronze Blue powered by the industry workhorse, Sellita SW200-1 Elaborè automatic movement, which is probably one of the most reliable movements available now.

What makes the 50 ATMOS Bronze Blue so attractive is, of course, the bronze case. As mention, Italians are the one that got the whole bronze watch going, this whole new case from Squale is made entirely in Italy. Those with a keen eye will probably notice the close resemblance of the case composition to the major brands that probably cost five times the Squale. The case measures 42mm wide, 49.5mm lug-to-lug, and 14mm thick. It’s a watch with a lot of wrist presence, but the rather short lug-to-lug case makes this watch ultra wearable even on the smallest of the wrist. The 50 Atmos Bronze is the only model in which the widely- recognized winding crown has been moved from 4 to 2 o'clock to ensure maximum comfort while diving.

The beautiful three-piece case consists of the bezel, mid-case, and case back. From the top, the new bezel has an all-new bezel knurling design for better grip even in wet conditions. What stands out is the two-piece bezel.

The bezel is bronze, and the bezel inlay made from a separate piece of ceramic material with matching markers, and it does not stop there. The bezel inlay has been done with circular brushing for a nice texture. Further, the markers on the inlay are being engraved to create a sense of depth. The only reason why is this done this way is so that Squale can play with a mixture of finishing through the case, bezel, and bezel insert.

The watch employs a total of 4 finishing throughout the case, from heavier satin brushed on the side of the case to medium satin brushed on the top of the case to the light circular brushing on the bezel inlay. What these finishings do is that they allow the case to catch the different amount of light depending on the finishing, for an exquisite look.

The dial is another point of distinction. The blue dial is done with a sunburst effect, subtle yet elegant at the same time. And to give the dial depth and dimensions, Squale has recessed the edge of the dial with a ring of stamped guilloche. This time around, Squale has also employed a large applied index. The new set of hands are satin brushed and finished in bronze  for the hour and second hands for a matching look. The stark contrast between the sunburst dial, guilloche ring, applied index, matte hands, and ceramic bezel insert gives the watch quite a charm that is only possible through minute details. Ultimately it is all in the details for watch lovers isn't it?

The right amount of SuperLuminova C3 is used on the dial for a pleasant glow in the dark. With functionality in mind, the Squale's new bronze model is fitted with a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside to ensure maximum readability regardless of lighting conditions.

The Squale 50 ATMOS Bronze fitted with either a matching blue NATO strap, or a leather one. Finished with superior quality in Italy, both straps distill a classic look for the bronze model, while catering maximum comfortability for its wearer.
