Prospex for Seiko basically means "Professional Specification" that their timepieces in this category are built with very high standards to be used by professionals. One of the most sought after by enthusiasts since its limited edition release in 2016 years is probably the remake of the Seiko Samurai. With much request since we introduced Seiko JDMs, we decided to bring in the MADE IN JAPAN Samurais, denoted by the "J" in the reference number and the "MADE IN JAPAN" at 6 on the dial.

The Seiko Prospex Samurai 200M Automatic Black/Gold Ref. SRPB55J1 was introduced as part of the Prospex collection in 2017. The original Seiko Samurai divers are pretty rare given its short 4 years production lifespan(circa 2004-2008). It is known to collectors for being reliable, affordable and well-designed.
Powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 4R35, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 41 hours.

The 200m water resistant stainless steel case measure 43.8mm case without the crown, with a lug width of 22mm. The main highlight goes to the Samurai's iconic facetted case design. The angular lugs allows the watch to wrap around the wrist on all wrist sizes, big or small. Another Feature of the Seiko Samurai is it's bezel and crown, they have unique knurling on them that allows user to function them with ease. It rotates buttery smooth into 120 positions and has little to no free play in a clockwise direction. Sitting atop of the bezel is Seiko's Hardlex.
Mixture of satin brush and Seiko's high polishing on the sides can be seen throughout the watch, giving it a somewhat premium yet rugged feel. Moving to the back, the caseback features the recognizable tsunami emblem that is staple on the other Seiko divers. The case even comes with lug holes allowing swapping of straps with ease.

The biggest evolution of the Seiko Samurai is probably from the facelifted dial. The indexes and the hands set have been redesigned to be larger for easier time reading. Unlike the earlier Samurais, the new arrow hour hand makes confusion with the minute hand impossible. Also, a small but useful marker appears next to the date window which was not present on the earlier Samurai. Probably the biggest change is the main plot on the dial. The new dial has a nice hobnail textured dial. Commonly known in the watch relm as “Clous de Paris” or “Nails of Paris”. The Paris hobnail dial features a guilloché pattern of hollowed lines that intersect to form tiny pyramidal shapes which are inspired by the streets of paris.
The hour markers and hands are both generously coated with Seiko's LumiBrite allowing it to glow brightly in the dark for hours.
