The Seiko Prospex Hulk Green Samurai 200M Automatic Ref. SBDY043 is the latest addition to the “Samurai” collection. Prospex for Seiko means “Professional Specification” that their timepieces in this category are built with very high standards to be used by professionals. One of the most popular releases in recent years is probably the remake of the OG Seiko Samurai launched in 2004 till 2008 (short production period). The original Samurai divers are pretty rare given its short four years production lifespan, further with few examples floating around in the market. It is no wonder the new Prospex SBDY019 are so popular among Seiko and dive watch collectors, as the giant revived this fantastic line since 2017.

With much request since we introduced Seiko JDMs, we decided to bring in the MADE IN JAPAN Turtles meant for the Japanese Domestic Market, denoted by the "J" in the reference number and the "MADE IN JAPAN" at 6 on the dial. The Prospex SBDY039 is similar to its siblings Turtle (SBDY039) and Sumo (SZSC004) but now clad in its “Samurai Armour”. The SBDY043 is a JDM model made available only in Japan. The difference might be subtle but this means a lot for Seiko collectors.
Powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 4R35, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 41 hours.

The 200m water resistant stainless steel case measure 43.8mm case without the crown, with a lug width of 22mm. The main highlight goes to the Samurai's iconic facetted case design. The angular lugs allows the watch to wrap around the wrist on all wrist sizes, big or small. Another Feature of the Seiko Samurai is it's bezel and crown, they have unique knurling on them that allows user to function them with ease. It rotates buttery smooth into 120 positions and has little to no free play in a clockwise direction. Sitting atop of the bezel is Seiko's Hardlex.
Mixture of satin brush and Seiko's high polishing on the sides can be seen throughout the watch, giving it a somewhat premium yet rugged feel. Moving to the back, the caseback features the recognizable tsunami emblem that is staple on the other Seiko divers. The case even comes with lug holes allowing swapping of straps with ease.

The biggest evolution of the Seiko Samurai is probably from the facelifted dial. The indexes and the hands set have been redesigned to be larger for easier time reading. Unlike the earlier Samurais, the new arrow hour hand makes confusion with the minute hand impossible. Also, a small but useful marker appears next to the date window which was not present on the earlier Samurai. Probably the biggest change is the color choice on the dial. The new dial has a nice sunburst hulk green tone, it manages to dance and play with different lightings when it hits the surface. The indices are largely the same, as are the classic Seiko hour and minutes hands. The impeccable hour markers and hands are both generously coated with Seiko's LumiBrite allowing it to glow brightly in the dark for hours. The second hand is done I bright yellow color to aid legibility. Further, Seiko has also done the 12, 3, 6 and 9 markers on the minute rehaut in the same yellow as the second hand to keep things size up a bit.
The Seiko Prospex Hulk Green Samurai 200M Automatic Ref. SBDY043 comes with a stainless steel bracelet with three fold clasp with secure lock and push button release with extender.
TheSeiko Prospex Hulk Green Samurai 200M Automatic Ref. SBDY043 is probably one of the more exiciting dive watch remakes from Seiko in recent years. And one of the few watches that is worthy to be in any dive watch collection. With its excellent price point and good value for money, it is a watch that will probably find itself onto the wrist of most Seiko buyers
