Delving into the heart of Seiko's JDM watches, we marvel at the new engine that this renowned company has built. 2005 marks the year in which Seiko made the 6R15 engine, derived from its 7S26 movement. Using this stellar in-house manufactured calibers to create their JDM timepieces, Seiko's 7S and 6R movements are popular among Seiko collectors.
Proven to be reliable and accurate, the 6R15 movement powered the previous Sumo generation ever since their launches three years ago. Always seeking to improve, Seiko unveils its latest engine, the 6R35 caliber, an upgrade from the workhorse 6R15. This movement is used to power the Sumo Japan Blue edition, making this timepiece the first to feature Seiko's new automatic caliber. Maintaining operation at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities, this engine has 24 jewels and a longer power reserve of 70 hours, a whopping 20 hours more than the 7S and 6R. The 200m water resistant Sumo stainless steel case embodies the beautiful craftsmanship and fluid line.
This dive watch is a well-received favorite in the Seiko community. The Japan Collection 2020 measures 45mm wide, a lug to lug length of 52.6mm, a lug width of 20mm, and approximately 12.9mm. This watch was born to be built like heavyset Sumo, a direct incarnation to the previous Sumos, while allowing comfortability on any wrist size.
