Coming from a historic Swiss watch manufacturer renowned for their watchmaking excellence, Mido called upon their extensive heritage to release a modern interpretation of a retro chronograph belonging to one of their most desired collections, the Multifort. This is one gorgeous vintage-inspired release from Mido that will surely touch the hearts of the masses, especially chronograph lovers out there. Paying tribute to the brand’s oldest and most iconic chronograph from 1937—the Mido Multichrono, the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph White Ref. M040.427.36.262.00 is geared up with superior specifications of the 21st century while keeping the spotlight on it’s charming vintage artistry, embodying what many would refer to as “pure class”.

For over more than 100 years, Mido has stood for watches that combined innovation, aesthetics and functionality since its beginnings. Founded by experienced watchmaker Georges Schaeren in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland back in 1918, the name “Mido” was derived from the Spanish phrase “Yo Mido”, meaning “I measure”. Today, Mido is based in the town of Le Locle, in the heart of the beautiful Swiss Jura Mountains.

As a brand who unceasingly strives to integrate cutting-edge horological innovations in their timepieces, the 1930s to 1940s was a period where Mido ushered many firsts in the watchmaking industry. In 1934, Mido unveiled their pioneering “unbreakable mainspring” technology, the very same year their famous “Multifort” collection was introduced. Even until today, the Multifort collection stands as one of the most popular line ups from Mido. It was during this era where Mido marked another remarkable milestone in their rich horological history—the introduction of the world’s first ever centrally-read chronograph timepiece in 1941, the legendary Mido Multicenterchrono. This led to Mido to become a one of the leading manufacturers for chronographs in the watchmaking industry ever since, offering well-designed and performance-driven Swiss-made chronographs that are immensely adored by watch connoisseurs.

Modelled after the slim and curvaceous case designs popularly seen in vintage chronographs of the 1930s, the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph White Ref. M040.427.36.262.00 sports a rose gold PVD coated stainless steel case with slim tapered lugs and two classic oversized chronograph pump pushers at the right side of the case. Mido executed the case finishes impeccably well with a high level of detail, alternating between a high polish finish on the top of the lugs and fine vertical brushing at the side of the case.

Caliber 60 based on the ETA A05.H31
Measuring with a contemporary 42mm case diameter, the watch finds a sweet balance between a vintage dial design and modern case dimensions. While 42mm may seem slightly overwhelming for some, the gently curved down lugs pleasingly hug the wrist for a comfortable fit. With a lug to lug distance of 49mm and a case thickness of 15.2mm, this is a piece that works perfectly as both a casual everyday sports watch or a dress-up piece for fancier occasions. To further elevate the timeless elegance of the Multifort Patrimony Chronograph, the watch is paired with a 19mm black crocodile-grained natural leather strap, carefully crafted and assembled by hand.

Beneath the boxed sapphire crystal, the silver dial of the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph White Ref. M040.427.36.262.00 simply screams vintage, displaying a bicompax dial layout with the date window at the 6 o’clock position which establishes a visually symmetrical appearance. The combination of large arabic numerals and faceted rose gold PVD alpha style hands achieve an attractive retro style that’s straight out of the 30s. The level of detail here is astonishing, both sub-counters at the 3 and 9 o’clock position presents a ravishing sunray effect, bringing additional depth and character to the dial. To top off the vintage appeal, the Mido logo is printed in their old-school cursive Mido font found in their timepieces from former times.

SuperLuminova for Superb Glow In Dark

The Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph White Ref. M040.427.36.262.00 is powered by the Mido Calibre 60 élaboré grade automatic chronograph movement based on the ETA Calibre A05.H31 (essentially derived from the ever-reliable Valjoux 7753). This 27 jewel movement runs at a rate of 28,800 beats per hour (BPH) with a healthy power reserve of 60 hours. Turning the watch around, the see-through display allows a gorgeous view of this stunning movement, finely decorated with beautiful Geneva stripes, blued screws and impressive perlage work.

Incorporating all the right ingredients for a modern vintage-inspired chronograph, the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph White Ref. M040.427.36.262.00 is a true masterpiece that expresses Mido’s profound watchmaking capabilities while encapsulating their rich heritage in a release based on one of their most historic chronographs.
