Here’s a spectacular chronograph from Ball that stands apart from the usual core models — designed in partnership with meteorologist, brand ambassador and a proud member of the Ball explorers club Dr. Joshua Wurman, the exceedingly cool name Storm Chaser Pro definitely holds a notable significance in the field chasing tornados. Coming from a brand known for its rich heritage of crafting robust timepieces, Ball embarked on a journey to create a watch that could handle extreme weather conditions, a professional speciality of Dr. Wurman, being the president of the Center of Severe Weather Research (CSWR). Launched in Baselworld 2014, the Storm Chaser Pro not only excels in harsh weather resistance, but also in its stunning aesthetics as a Swiss-made automatic chronograph.

Ball Watch Co. is one of the handful of names that are associated with the rich American watchmaking history, being highly respected for producing fine and accurate watches. With the advent of American railroads in the early 19th century, the development of the watch industry in America gave birth to many innovative watches associated with railroad timekeeping. Precise timekeeping was essential to railroad operations to ensure trains were coordinated. It was Webb C. Ball who first successfully established a system of strict standards, otherwise known as the ‘Official RR Standard’ in 1981, forbidding variations more than 30 seconds among watches carried by all railroad workers. The brand name ‘Ball’ stems from Mr. Webb C. Ball who founded the Ball Watch Company that later became the standard for American railroad timekeeping.
Till this day, Ball Watch Co. has stayed committed to producing accurate timepieces while incorporating advanced technologies and innovations that shape their watches to the needs of the 21st century. Ball Watch Co. is now based in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, manufacturing watches with immaculate craftsmanship the Swiss are best known for. Despite Ball watches not being American-made today, they continue to uphold the founding spirit of the brand - industrial functionality that is never compromised.

Constructed out of grade 316L stainless steel, the Fireman Storm Chaser Pro MOP Ref. CM3090C-S3J-BE comes in some pleasing dimensions, finding a sweet balance between a comfortable everyday sporty timepiece and having a really bold presence on the wrist. Measuring with a 42mm diameter, a lug to lug distance of 51mm and a case thickness of 15.6mm, the watch would wear well on majority of wrist sizes. Adorned predominantly with sharp, defined satin brushing throughout, the case sees a substantial polished chamfer running from lug to lug for that extra flair of refinement. Amplifying the sporty appearance, the watch is fitted with a solid 21mm stainless steel bracelet.
Situated at the 2 o’clock position, the top chronograph pusher that starts and stops the stopwatch function gets a really striking orange detail, adding a pop of color while providing great visibility. The orange accents carries through to the dial where the main attraction is at; presenting a gorgeous mother-of-pearl dial that shines with iridescence, capturing different hues and textures when viewed from different angles, who would have thought a chronograph dial would look this stunning. Accompanied with black subdials and a day-date complication at the 3 o’clock position, the rather busy layout cohesively blends every element with each other to create one really eye-catching dial.
