DSub2

The Damasko DSub2 is the second dive watch introduced by Damasko. Like the Gnomon Exclusive DSub1, the DSub2 is made in-house by Damasko. The DSub2 is a watch of many first which we will discuss more in depth.

Damasko DSub2

The DSub2’s watch case is made in-house by Damasko using what Damasko calls “Deutscher U-Boat-Stahl” which translates to be Germany Submarine Steel. The Submarine steel is a high strength alloy steel and used extensively in the construction of German submarines and navy ships. The Submarine steel also offers significant corrosion resistance compared to 316L stainless steel.

The combination of the steel's properties makes this the perfect material for a dive watch. And for those who are asking, YES, the bezel, case back and crown are also machined from the same U-Boat steel.

Another first is the unidirectional dive bezel with 5-55 minutes markings, that uses three ceramic ball bearings ratcheting system, ensures that the bezel clicks into the 60 clicks positively with 0 play left or right. This is probably one of the best dive watch bezel system available in the market.

Rich blue dial with orange accent

The black bezel insert with orange markings for the first 15 minutes are treated with Damest for added strength and scratch resistance. All these ensure users with precise and reliable dive time readings.

Another unique characteristic of the different steel has to be the color of the steel. The dark titanium grey color gives the watch a utilitarian, no-nonsense attitude.

The newly designed 300m water resistant U-Boat steel case measures 43mm case without the crown has a lug to lug length of 49mm, and a height of about 12.6mm, with a lug width of 22mm. The curved lugs help in the ergonomics of the case making it extremely comfortable on all wrist sizes. A double domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside ensures maximum readability regardless of lighting conditions. And for those who love strap swapping, the DSub2 has drilled through lugs for easy spring bar removal.

Utilitarian, no-nonsense design

Crown is equipped with Damasko's patented lubrication cell which ensures smooth action and lubricates the shaft and the gasket. The tube of the crown is according to industrial engineering, screwed into the case. Almost every other watch manufacturer makes use of an inferior press fit tube.

All gaskets of the new crown system made of Viton™, a material with high chemical and mechanical resistance which is superior to every other gasket material (Nitril, etc.) currently used in wrist watches.

The watch is powered by the tried and tested ETA2824-2 which is fine-tuned and tested by Damasko to high precision.

In-house precision engineered German Submarine Steel case

Next, the dial is a whole new dial design. The Damasko DSub2 shares the same design language as the DA/DC collection but with a new breathe of fresh air. The matte rich blue dial has more sterile in design as compared to the first DSub1, whereby the crosshair marking is removed, leaving only the Damasko logo at 12 o’clock. While refreshing, we feel it sorts of loses the Damasko DNA that tiny bit.

Another nice touch was done by Damasko, where they continued to pay close attention to details. A small date aperture at 4 o’clock with custom-made date disc, rich blue background with white numbers to match the dial. Pay close attention to the luminous in the dark. Tri colored luminous is used on the Dsub2. Whoever said the German has no sense of humor?

The DSub2 comes with a black rubber strap with deployant clasp, known by Damasko as the Rubber strap “Sport”, and comes with a bead-blasted deployant clasp. Therefore, with this combination, it gives the watch the all-ready-to-get-wet sense.

SuperLuminova C1 glows in the dark

Every Damasko watch features an essential technical detail which is not visible at first sight but has a significant influence on its accuracy under harsh conditions. The DSub2 being the follow-up Damasko diver of the DSub1, gives the Dsub collection a bit of a shake up with its refreshing design and color. A watch that sets the bar a notch higher for other dive watch manufacturer. If you are in the market for the ultimate dive watch that is understated and yet charming in a technical way, this is the watch worth considering. If you already have the DSub1 than there is no reason why you shouldn't be adding the Dsub2 to complete the collection.
