In early 2017, Evant introduced their debut model, the Tropic Diver. The collection was concluded in late 2017 in its bronze iteration. The extremely well received models were sold out within a matter of days. For 2018, Evant came up with a whole new design from ground up. Meet the Evant Decodiver.
Evant Decodiver Fume Black - Ltd Production
The Evant Decodiver collection represents a new era of Evant watches. More technical in terms of case construction, more attention to details in terms of finishing and a design that has matured overall. Though bolder, the Decodiver still retains some of the brand's DNA.
The Decodiver will be made in limited production and available in two references, the Decodiver Fume Sky Blue and the Decodiver Fume Black.
The diameter of this watch is 41mm and a relatively short lug to lug of 49mm. The lugs to lugs dimensions of only 49mm coupled with the angled lugs design makes this watch both extremely comfortable and wearable on all wrist sizes. Evant has manage to keep this watch only at a height of 12mm despite it being a 300m/1000ft diver watch, keeping svelte in proportion. The form factor is something that we highly appreciate nowadays.
The case design is reminiscent of vintage watches made in the 1970s. The clear cut proportions, exhibits Evant's use of modern watchmaking techniques and machineries. Defined edges, steep lines and flat surfaces seamlessly exhibit minimal design. This attention to details is clearly shown throughout the watch. In our opinion, the watch is heavily inspired by Mr Gérald Genta's work.
Defined edges, steep lines and flat surfaces. Multiple finishing.
In addition, the Evant Decodiver is finished with multiple intricate finishings. Almost every surface is finished differently that we think listing them in point form will only give them justice, so here we go:
1. Top surface – Circular satin brushed
2. Connecting lugs surface – Polished
3. Sides of case – Vertical brushed
4. Thin bevel that runs from length to length – Polished
5. Crown guard - Polished
6. Sides of bezel – Polished
Alot of thoughts has gone into the mix of finishing for the Decodiver where every intersecting surface is met with a different finishing; brushed with polished and vice versa.
With the mixture of finishing gives the Decodiver an upmarket feel, that are found usually in timepieces that cost a lot more. One can definitely admire it every time light hits on the different surface of the watch, bringing out a sense of occasion.
The highlight of Evant Decodiver is probably the iconic dial design which is now synonymous with Evant. The precursor gradient fume black dial is back, where it dances with different lightings depending on the environment, goes from a silerish brown to a black contributed by the sunburst finishing. The uniqueness of the fume black dial is lighter in the center and gets gradually darkens outwards.
Fume black dial with sunburst effect. Applied hour markers.
In addition to the vintage touch, the applied hour-markers are separated into two and filled with SuperLuminova in the center. The numbers 3,6,9 and the iconic 12 marker are applied and coated with SuperLuminova, adding to the depth and dimension. The new dauphine hands (differing from the pencil style found on the Tropicdiver) are rhodium plated and filled with luminous as well.
Combining all these elements, one has what is probably the most mesmerizing dial we have ever came out with.
Like the previous Evant models, the Evant Decodiver uses a domed ceramic bezel insert fabricated from a special blend of ceramic finished with luminous indices. The new bezel insert has a more appealing curvature and a luminous application that is more resilient to the element while still giving it a bakelite feel and 70s diver looks.

The flat sapphire crystal glass used on the Decodiver is approximately 2.5mm thick. Further enhancement were made with anti-reflecting treatment done on the inside, giving no distortion for user at any angles.
Sticking to Evant's Go Swiss or Go Home philosophy, the Decodiver is powered by the Swiss Made ETA2824-2 automatic movement. Only “Elabore” grade movements are used for Evant. The 28,800bph (4Hz) movement has and expected accuracy of +/- 10 seconds/day with a minimum power reserve of 38 hours.
The Evant Decodiver comes with two straps to give them very different looks. The new straps are handmade in Germany. To compliment the overall looks, the straps are 22mm tapered down to 18mm for that classy old school charm. Still found on the strap is the iconic Evant buckle that is machined from a solid block of stainless steel.

Summing up the new Decodiver, it is everything what Evant have learned from the Tropic Diver and improved upon. Our opinion might sound a little bias because we are IN LOVE with this watch. It has been a long while since we see something so refreshing yet refined. Sure, there are a lot of new watches introduced by boutique brands everyday but most of the time, their novelty seem to wear off pretty quickly.
Perfect proportions on all wrist sizes
The beautiful faceted case with a mixture of finishes really makes this watch stand out from the crowd. The beautiful dial color is something not found in many watches. Again, attention to details is second to none and we cannot emphasize enough.
If you are in the market for a diver with a 70s vibe, this is quite a lot of watch for the money. Or if you simply want a quality built dive watch, this comes highly recommended from us. For US$499, there simply is not another watch which we think can rival the Evant Decodiver.
