Yema, an unsuspecting name coined by Henry Louis Belmont during a school contest back in his teenage years, goes on to attain a massive following throughout its 72 years of watchmaking. Graduating at the top of his class in the National Watchmaking School of Besançon, Belmont lives up to his title with exquisite timepieces that are out of this world, literally, when the Yema Spationaute flew to space on astronaut Jean-Loup Chrétien’s wrist.

Buckle your seatbelts as Yema introduces the newest addition to her aviator watch collection, the Yema Flygraf Pilot M1. Dating all the way back to the 1970s, Yema’s Flygraf chronographs are crafted in close collaboration with pilot watch enthusiasts and professional pilots to reach the greatest heights in the watch industry. Designed jointly with professional aerobatic pilot Sammy Mason who at age 19 became the youngest member of the US National Advanced Aerobatic Team, this timepiece draws inspiration from both Flieger and military field watches from World War II.

Be surprised at the exquisite in-house movement, the YEMA2000, which powers the Flygraf Pilot M1. This French automatic calibre is built with 31 rubies, operates at 28 800 BPH (3 Hertz) and has a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. Entirely designed, developed and assembled at Yema’s Morteau workshops in France, the use of this self-winding movement is a novelty for the humble French watchmaker and greatly elevates the value of this timepiece.

Measuring 39mm in diameter, the Flygraf Pilot M1 boasts a height of 13 mm and a lug to lug distance of 48mm, which rests snugly on most wrist sizes. The case of this watch is made of robust 316L stainless steel, satin-brushed to gleaming perfection. This sleek watch case is complemented with a fixed vertically-brushed steel bezel that bestows this timepiece with a grand look characteristic of luxury sports watches such as the astounding Grand Seiko and Audemar Piguet. With polished bevelled sides, the mid-case of this watch dominates its design and emphasizes its short lugs.

Engraved seamlessly onto the case back of this pilot watch, Yema’s vintage crest proudly claims its place at the back of this phenomenal timepiece. Furthermore, the Flygraf Pilot M1 is fitted with a screw-down signed crown protected by crown guards which allows for a 300m water resistance. Flight or fight? This timepiece is a purposeful tool watch for both responses and shows off a high-quality, scratch-resistant flat sapphire crystal atop its dial.

The sporty matte black dial of this timepiece is what makes it stand out. Flaunting an inner 24-hour scale in white that allows for excellent legibility in the dark, this military-inspired vertically-brushed dial is reminiscent of the texture of formidable Boeing military aircraft fuselages in the 1940s. To complete the military look of this dial, the French watchmaker includes an aviation-style handset that mirrors those found in aircraft cockpit navigation instruments which graces this watch with a professional sleek look. Additionally, the handset and dial indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova BGW9 which glows a brilliant blue in the dark.

Designed to withstand the harshest air and land conditions, the Flygraf Pilot M1’s black canvas strap complements its textured dial and shows off a charming trendy aesthetic. This strap also has a leather backing on its underside to ensure maximum comfort and is fitted with a signed steel pin buckle that matches its robust watch case.

The Flygraf Pilot M1 draws you in with its professional yet rugged allure and as if on autopilot, this timepiece finds its way into your heart and onto your wrist. Crafted with utmost precision from the inside out, this pilot watch tells the adventure of athletes and explorers from all walks of life.
