Prospex for Seiko basically means "Professional Specification" that their timepieces in this category are built with very high standards to be used by professionals. Seiko’s answer to their 62MAS from 1965 is the modernized and pocket-friendly priced Seiko Prospex Diver SBDC051 and the Seiko Prospex Diver SBDC053. These new timepieces also echo the design of 1965 original, but are thoroughly up-to-date in their functions and meet Seiko's stringent standards for diver's watches. Today, the 62MAS reissues get a blackout makeover with a fume blue dial.

Before we get started, the Seiko Prospex 200M Automatic Darth 62MAS Ref. SBDC085 is the latest JDM model launched in July 2019 and solely comes from the land of the rising sun.
The Seiko Prospex 200M Automatic Darth 62MAS Ref. SBDC085 is powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 6R15, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 50 hours through a Spron 510 mainspring.
The 200m water resistant stainless steel case measure 42.6mm case without the crown has a lug to lug length of 50mm, and a height of about 13.8mm, with a lug width of 20mm. The 200m water-resistant case is treated with Seiko’s proprietary PVD coating on the case and bracelet. This, firstly, provides scratch-protection and extra corrosion resistance. While it does not make the watch scratch resistant like Dievas and Damasko, it does reduce scratches and scuffs significantly, and further gives one a more sleek and personalized look. The bezel is done in black too, and rotates buttery smooth into 120 positions has minimal free play in a clockwise direction. A mixture of satin brush and Seiko high polishing on the sides can be seen on the whole watch even when its blackout, the Zaratsu polished line still can be seen on the case profile adds a touch of contemporary refinement.

The screw-down crown at three o'clock is sterile. Moving to the back of the watch, the screw-down case back allows 200m water-resistant and is also brushed, featuring the recognizable tsunami emblem that is a staple on the other Seiko divers. The case does come with lug holes allowing swapping of straps with ease.
Onto the dial, the design is hugely based on the 62MAS. With fume blue dial and applied markers. It is a beauty to look at and probably can stare at it for hours. Where the periphery is almost black, but gets brighter to oceanic blue tone towards the middle The hands are same as the SBDC051 and 53 except with the minute hand done in bright yellow for good readability even when in dark environment, the wider and carry long-lasting Lumibrite so as to be highly legible even in dark water.

The design of the black bracelet compliments the watch beautifully, with a seamless look and feel. The bracelet is a step above the other Prospex collection like the Sumo and Shogun. Compared to the regular flat bracelet design, the SBDC085’s link has an angled design and a more solid feel overall.
