In the 1970s, the watch industry was severely hit with the massive flood of quartz watches, and many brands needed something special that the world had never seen before to stay afloat. Therefore during those time, certain manufacturers have came out with a certain design elements that has set today’s standard of what it is called, a luxury sports watch, that has freshened up and shake the whole industry.

The iconic octagonal-shaped bezel, integrated bracelet and full stainless steel material used for the watches, were the formula from a genius, Mr Gerald Genta himself in 1971. These designs were embodied into many high-end sports watches, like the Audemar Piguet Royal Oaks, Rolex Oyster Quartz and Patek Nautillus. Today, Dietrich has brought forth their latest model with these classic Genta’s elements with the combination of Emmanuel’s own designer’s touch, we present to you the Time Companion TC-1.
The Time Companion TC-1 is Emmanuel's latest debut, a different approach by him from his signature Organic Time models. The TC-1 has a more compelling luxurious yet sporty touch, with an Swiss automatic movement as it’s engine. The case, bezel and bracelet are made from 316L stainless steel, with a combination of both brushed and polished finishings. This helps to keep the original intention of it being a sports lifestyle watch where, being versatile enough, one can pair it with wearer’s outfit from casual beach wear to a full suit for an evening dinner.

The dimension of the case is at 43.8mm wide, 42mm long and 47mm lug to lug with a thickness of only 9.3mm. Even though the small footprint, it give the wearer some wrist presence, while still allowing it to slip under the shirt cuffs nicely due to its thinness.
Moreover, the whole timepiece is finished in full PVD black, that gives a super sleek and badass look. The faceted bezel is handsomely vertical-brushed finished on the top and polished on the edge and finished off with satin brushed sides giving the watch a sense of luxury. The bezel elevates masculinity, finishing off with eight screws around the bezel. Furthermore, the bracelet is another highlight of the watch. It is not just integrated flawlessly with the case, but it has a complex hex-style shape links that blends together with its hex-style textured dial in the middle, and the overall oblong shaped case.

The profound design does not just stop with the case and bracelet. The crown is another talking point, with six facets allowing it to be in-sync with the overall design, and it is a screwed down crown that provides the watch with a water resistant of 50m (enough for your beach activities).
Moving on to the dial, it comes in two variations; black and blue. Dynamism and dimensions, all of them with trapezoid hour markers and cotton-bud hands, further applied with white colored Super-Luminova that glows blue and green respectively. The minute markers are something that you do not see often, where it outlines the hour markers stylishly.

While the bracelet shows off the designer's flair, the dial on the TC-1 should not be excluded. Emmanuel himself has succeeded in nailing a complex dial that does not feels too simple nor does it sacrificed legibility. Yet it brings out a certain depth thanks to the different finishings, like having the same vertical-brushed strokes on the middle, pairing it flawlessly with the inner dial finished with hexagonal honeycomb textures. Follow by the hand sets and hour markers, whereby their surrounds are finished with gilt gold finishing, keeping the black and gold theme.
Powering the Time Companion TC-1 is the all time Swiss workhorse engine, the reliable Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic beats at 28,800bph and a power reserve of 38 hours.
Details, details & details, the latest Dietrich is extremely well priced given the finishing and level of details. The Time Companion takes on the luxurious Genta’s blueprints of a sports watch, with Emmanuel Dietrich’s very own design elements. It is well built with finishing and quality that can be found on watches that are much pricier, and further gives the wearer a lot of enjoyment, as there are many elements in the TC-1, that are just so special and different.
