Gnomon's February 2020 Lookbook

Gnomon's February 2020 Lookbook

May 22, 2024

We’re back this month with the February 2020 Lookbook, and there’s a little bit of everything nostalgia this month. From the conventional Ball Watch Fireman Enterprise in sunburst silver to the military diver Frogman from the Swiss-American Hamilton company with its crazy crown guard. Without further ado, let’s take a look at how we get to hang out with these classic pieces.

MIDO COMMANDER ICONE SILVERTONE REF. M031.631.11.031.00

Although our guy went straight up strapping on this 42mm contemporary sized Commander, the feedback was nothing of modernism in any aspect. The watch radiates pure 60s vibe, with a legless design, silver dial done in sunburst, and on the Milanese mesh bracelet.

He concluded his wrist time with the Mido as if they have brought back something over a few decades ago and exited the manufacture doors at Mido boasting one of the brand’s earliest designs. The Commander Icone fits as one of the “icon” that put Mido on the map.

BALL WATCH FIREMAN ENTERPRISE SILVER REF. NM2188C-S20J-WH

Continuing the silver-tone face theme, this particular one did not disappoint. Many seemed to enjoy having a more modern piece and what we have here, or should we say, our exclusive model; the Ball Fireman Enterprise ticks the box. From the case is of 40mm and lug to lug dimension of 48mm, to the solid 136L stainless steel bracelet, this watch fits many of our wrists on any occasion.

With the sunburst silver dial, things are muted a little more as opposed to those that shout right in your face. The monochromatic look has only diverged with the inclusion of Ball’s signature micro gas tubes on the hour markers and handset that glows 24/7 for its wearer.

HERODIA SERIES 1 ARTHUR

It would be odd not to rock a well-packaged dive watch. We took the renaissance of Mountres Herodia, an under-the-radar watch brand from the town Reconvilier, located in Switzerland. Since this particular red bezel diver comes from our Gnomon member, we realized we need to capture it with him while he paired it with a matching red jacket almost every time he caught wearing one.

Since its a 60s dive watch styling, our dear mate only wears the Arthur on its original vintage brown leather to complete the look. What else to ask for if you want to taste pure 60s form of Swiss horology.

HAMILTON NAVY FROGMAN RED – RUBBER REF. H77725335

Since our guy is into his own “red” color trend, we thought we have to include the Navy Frogman with the red bezel to finish his styling. This particular model initially made to be Hamilton’s ultimate military diver, especially for the US Naval Combat Demolition Units in the 1940s.

It wears sportily enough with its 42mm wide dimension, paired nicely with its integrated black rubber strap; the Frogman hits you with the right sense of what “forms-follow-functions” is all about.

Oh, and we don’t forget about its 9mm signed “big-crown” style cap attached to a two-piece arm that adjoint with each other, lending a certain quirkiness to its overall.

Steinhart Ocean 39 GMT PREMIUM 500

Following the 200m water-resistant-or-more sort of dive watches, when Steinhart comes into the picture, you know it’s all about the value proposition. When he straps on the latest Ocean 39 GMT Premium 500, the versatility of this piece takes the main stage.

Two-tone ceramic bezel in the horizon colorway, 500m water resistant in a 39mm wide case, an open case-back to view the Top grade movement ticking inside, hooded in a domed sapphire crystal with GMT function. What else do we need? Maybe a nice Blue bond nato to keep the heat down just a little…
