The Victorinox INOX Mechanical is probably the most anticipated model to be introduced by Victorinox in Baselworld 2018 and it is now here! When Victorinox Swiss Army introduced the robust I.N.O.X watch collection in 2014, it was launched in quartz as they have to pass through 130 challenging tests, and boy, do they survive all of them.
For three consecutive years, these watches have come out in many variations, like the carbon and titanium selections. However, only until now, Victorinox brought some mechanical movements into this line.
INOX Mechanical Blue
The new INOX Mechanical Blue is the first to have an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement in the collection. The watch keeps the now iconic I.N.O.X case style, measuring at 43mm wide and 13.5mm thick like on the quartz models, with a 200m water resistant
through the screw-down crown. While it stays true to the Inox collection, the case is not without some minor improvements. The bezel now has a clear DLC coating to make it more scratch resistant and the new case back also has a display back to show its movement working. achievable
The Victorinox INOX Mechanical is powered by ETA's automatic caliber, ETA2824-2, operating at 28,800 BPH (4 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 25 jewels with a power reserve of 40 hours.
Tapisserie dial (hobnail texture) to mimic handle of Swiss Army Knife
It bears not just a double, but a triple AR-coated sapphire crystal over the dial, increasing the readability. Another unique feature goes to the dial, and kudos for Victorinox to spice things up a little, by having a tapisserie dial (hobnail texture) meant to mimic the handle of a Swiss officer’s knife. Giving the watch a more up-market feel by creating a certain depth to the dial, along with the applied markers and Victorinox shield logo at 12. We admire the attention to details Victorinox has give to the new Inox mechanical. Good amount of SuperLuminova C1 is applied to the index for superb glow in the dark action.
Another distinctive feature definitely have to be the new wood strap the Victorinox INOX Mechanical comes with. And for those who think it is just another "embossed" leather strap, then you are wrong. The innovative and ecological wooden strap is obtained from linden tree, featuring hobnail pattern, that is crafted onto a leather lining for maximum comfort. This creates a genuine and unique combination with the INOX Mechanical, while matching the hobnail pattern seamlessly with the tapisserie dial. It even comes with a Victorinox signed deployant clasp.
Open Caseback, ETA2824-2 Swiss Movement
Overall, the Victorinox I.N.O.X Mechanical is the much awaited model for the collection. Surely it being a mechanical watch, will not be able to withstand the impact from throwing itself out the window of a 20 storey building like its quartz brothers. But we believe Victorinox takes pride in their I.N.O.X. watches being ultra reliable under all conditions, and that’s a claim they can stand behind. While keeping the sleek and robust design from the original I.N.O.X, this new mechanical is one that will attract enthusiasts who want a genuine Swiss made watch with a Swiss automatic movement with a rich history of utilitarian and reliability all for under US$800.
