The Seiko Prospex 200M Automatic Titanium Shogun Ref. SBDC029 is a watch that is robust, light and good for daily wear. The SBDC029 was released in 2015 as the next generation shogun, superseding the original SBDC007 which made its debut in 2009.
Full titanium case & bracelet on the SBDC029
This model have few changes from its former and a level up from the SBDC031 & SBDC033 a.k.a the "Sumo". It utilises a hardened titanium for one and than treated with Seiko's Diashield coating for the extra scratch resistant, and mesmerizing glisten to the surface.
Its case measures 44mm without the crown, has a lug to lug length of 50mm, a lug width of 22mm and sits 13mm tall. It is powered by the 6R15 automatic operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 50 hours through a Spron 510 mainspring.
The SBDC029 uses a distinct bezel and different handset and markers for the dial design. The obelisk markers on the corners of the dial works consistently with the shape of the hour and minute hands. The luminescence on the markers is the latest applied LumiBrite from Seiko, that is 60% stronger than the former.
The Shogun's case edges are beveled which contrasts very nicely against the brushed case. The curved lugs helps in making the watch more wearable compared to watches with similar dimensions. The caseback further features the watch specifications and along with the famous tsunami logo that is synonymous with Seiko's dive watches. The Shogun's case is treated with Seiko's DiaSheield. This provide scratch-protection and extra corrosion resistance. While it does not make the watch scratch resistant like Dievas and Damasko, it does reduce scratches and scuffs significantly.
Seiko's Lumibrite speaks for itself
The design of the titanium bracelet compliments the watch beautifully, with a seemless look and feel, as it also has a diver extention to wear it over a wet suit. The Shogun also comes with an additional rubber strap. All this are packed into the package with a total weight of only 110g making it extremely comfortable to wear. It almost felt like the watch was never there. Truly a spectacular watch for work or fun.
