Oris unveils the fifth edition of its Air Racing series
Oris’s love affair with the skies continues with the new Air Racing Edition V, a watch inspired by the exploits of daredevil aerobatic pilot and Oris ambassador Don Vito Wypraechtiger.
Oris ambassador Don Vito Wypraechtiger
In 2013, Don Vito became the first non-American pilot, to win the Gold Race in the 50-year history of the National Championship Air Races in Reno. He proved his success was no fluke by piloting his Formula One class Scarlet Screamer to second place in the same event in 2014.
Every year, Oris creates a limited-edition watch to mark Don Vito’s achievements. This year’s is the Oris Air Racing Edition V, a watch that sits in the Oris Big Crown ProPilot line.
With its black DLC-coated stainless steel case, black dial and red accents, the Oris Air Racing Edition V is the sportiest Air Racing model to date. It has an engraved outline of the Scarlet Screamer on its case back, alongside its limited-edition number.
Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure legibility, even in low-light conditions. The oversized Arabic numerals and the hour and minute hands are coated in Super-LumiNova®, and the domed sapphire crystal glass has an anti-reflective coating on its inside to minimise glare caused by the sun.
Under the dial is Oris Calibre 752, an automatic movement that gives the watch a central seconds hand and a big day-date window at 3 o’clock. The black fabric strap is lined with leather in Oris’s signature red.
The Air Racing Edition V’s credentials will come in handy when Don Vito returns to Reno in September for another exploit.
