Founded by Willy Hanhart in 1882, the brand was originally based in Switzerland and then moved to Germany. In 1924 Hanhart created the first affordable mechanical stopwatch for use in track and field. The Pioneer Preventor9 Black is based on the Caliber 54 that Hanhart made in the 1960s. Not much has been documented on the Calibre 54. But it was mentioned that the Calibre 54 was made during the start of the war and issued mainly to the army and officers. The Pioneer Preventor9 Black we have today is a very close tribute to the original Caliber 54.

Now based in Gutenbach, Germany, which is in the Black Forest region, Hanhart continues to create very impressive chronographs and stop watches. With lines that are based on their historical models as well as new designs, such as mono-pushers, flybacks and etc. Featuring Swiss movements based on ETA movements developed with La Joux Perret, a high end complication manufacturer, and German Made cases, these small batch watches represent a value you wont find elsewhere.

The Hanhart Pioneer Preventor9 has a 40mm case that is very well balanced on the wrist and sits very comfortably on the wrist due to the rather short 48mm lug-to-lug dimension. Details is what makes the Pioneer Preventor9's case so attractive. The 3 piece case is finely brushed throughout save a lip under the bezel and top of the case where they meet which is polished, catching the occasional light that falls on it. The edges of the case are very well definied usually found in watches that cost a lot more. Definitely worthy of "Made In Germany".

Details are carried onto the dial. What Hanhart did was take the design from the 30s and modernize it. What we get is a good mix of old world military functionality and modern day sporty elegance. The matte black dial is lightly textured with a railway track that goes around the dial reminiscent of the old 30s Hanhart watches. With a sweeping seconds subdial that is sunken, creating a layered look for elegance and dimensions.

Beating way inside the Pioneer Preventor9 is a modified ETA automatic movement with a subsecond complication which Hanhart names the HAN4112.
