Nomos comes from the Greek and means adherence to a set of laws or
order. This describes the nature and working principle of a watch.
NOMOS watches are mechanical, hand-wound watches of superior quality and
clear design. Only the very best materials are used in their
construction, and the greatest care and attention are paid to each part
by craftsmen excelling in their art. The design focuses particularly on
the watch's functional performance and legibility.
Glashütte, Saxony's center for fine watchmaking tradition, has been
famous since the middle of the 19th century for precision timepieces. In
Germany of the 20th century, however, Glashütte had faded into oblivion.
After World War II primarily mass-produced articles emerged from
Glashütte, and the historical timepieces became sought-after collectors'
items. The reunification of Germany led to the revival of these
watchmaking traditions. In 1991 NOMOS manufactured a high-quality
mechanical watch bearing the name Glashütte as the place of origin, the
first of the newly established watch manufacturers to do so.
